Injury from accumulated trauma…

Sports are a lot of fun when you’re young! As we age, we realize sports may have caused STRESS, STRAIN AND TRAUMA to our joints and skeletal system.  Untreated, the accumulation of these traumas over a decade of sports activities can be brutal in later life.

The trauma you receive when you are young results in effects not felt for many years.  It would be like a child who never brushes their teeth. They are fine for a while, but in later years they pay the price for the neglect. Many athletes have never had proper treatment or rehabilitation for joint injuries. Assuming that your body just “got over it” is the first mistake!

Our body is incredibly intelligent and has the ability to remember every injury its have ever had. When you see someone “tweak” their ankle during soccer, you may observe that they hobble or limp for a few steps and then they “run it off”. NOPE! The body actually bypasses the injury, like a movement detour, and the athlete is able to finish the game without further aggravating the injury. Nothing has been corrected, just avoided. Later in life, that ankle sprain is forgotten as new knee, hip, and back issues arise.

What can be done?

It is never too late to start healing your body. Patients may underestimate the body’s ability to remember injury, but patient’s also underestimate the body’s ability to heal!

At Dr. Super’s House of Health, our chiropractors are passionate about giving former or current athletes a chance to reclaim their power. Reclaiming range of motion, strength, agility, and active hobbies can give a patients their autonomy and confidence back. If you are a current or former athlete who struggles to recover from chronic injures, don’t give up! Give us a call and learn how you can reclaim your health and wellness to finally reach your fitness goals!

Injury Recovery

It is best to be evaluated by a chiropractor within 72 hours of receiving an injury. It does not take long for the body to create changes in movement and muscle recruitment patterns to compensate for the injury. Athletes usually adapt to injuries much faster than a civilian who did not play sports and their body is trained to move through or bypass an injury to “keep the game going”. At our office, we practice injury recovery with the following in mind:

  • Your full health history of all injuries, old and current

  • The myofascial anatomy trains philosophy of kinetics and muscle recruitment

  • Ergonomics and form while at practice, doing workouts, stretches, etc.

  • Soft tissue release and co-management with LMT, PT, and CST

  • Concussion management, diagnosis, and education as well as specific treatments for brain injury and long term concussion symptoms

  • Posture and load bearing capacity based on skeletal alignment

  • The different movements that need to be mastered depending on the sport and position played

  • Injury recovery after surgery

  • The health and wellness goals of a patient

Repetitive Motion Injuries

Sometimes injuries like to “sneak up” on us and many patients cannot think of a specific injury that resulted in their joint pain. The right shoulder just “started hurting one morning”, or “I gradually noticed my left hip tightness getting worse so I stopped running”. Many experience joint injuries due to repetitive motion disorders. This occurs when a patient has to perform a movement over, and over, and over again. This injury can be from overuse, poor form, or underlying causes such as EDS, disc injuries, or altered cervicogenic reflexes. These injuries can occur at work, during sports training, or during activities of daily living.

At Dr. Super’s House of House, we love to teach our patients how to connect to their body and feel how it is moving. Once a patient learns how to move, they can do at home PT and stretches to help alleviate symptoms and prevent future injury. By treating the underlying cause of repetitive injuries, we can help patients recover from joint pain and avoid invasive treatments such as surgeries or injections!

Soft Tissue Sessions

Soft-Tissue Sessions are a mixture of hands-on manual therapy techniques that are used to treat tissues of the body after an injury and to restore normal flexibility to a muscle. These techniques are a combination of massage techniques, stretches, and instrument assisted tissue release for effective muscle work.

We suggest STS to patients who experience the following:

  • Need to recover from an injury

  • Have chronic pain

  • Struggle with circulation

  • Have lymphatic drainage problems

  • Have scar tissue that is impairing healing

  • Do not have full range of motion of joints

  • Overuse certain muscles

  • Have postural imbalances
