Reiki
Reiki is a form of energy bodywork that helps accelerate healing, reduce pain, and restore well-being. Reiki is safe for anyone, anywhere, and is used to alleviate symptoms related to stress, anxiety, pain, depression, and wound healing. Reiki has been proven to be more effective that placebo treatments and is believed to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is our “rest and digest” system. Reiki treatments are great for anyone looking for help with anxiety, depressed feelings, mood disorders, physical healing, and relaxation.
The History of Reiki
There’s evidence that reiki has been used since ancient times, but was found again more recently in the early 1900’s by a man named Makao Usui in Japan who is known as the “Father or Reiki”. Reiki is an eastern medicine belief that all living beings have energy that flow through them that supports their health and vitality. The ‘energy bodywork’ that was stated above, is the art of removing ‘energy blocks’ from a persons body. According to belief, energy blocks stop the innate flow of energy and can lead to health problems and/or negative life circumstances (relationship problems, financial trouble, etc.). That is where a reiki master comes in- to restore the balance of energy in the body.
How does it work?
Reiki is considered to be a vibrational, subtle form of energy work that can be facilitated by light touch, or no touch, and is used to balance the biofield and strengthen the body’s ability to heal itself. Like chiropractic, reiki requires only your hands. With reiki there is no need for technology or specialized equipment, it is non-invasive, is appropriate for all ages, and has no known medical contraindications.
A reiki master will lightly put their hands on or hovering over the patient. You may tell the reiki master areas that you want them to focus on, whether it’s an old injury, a current injury, emotional turmoil, feelings of anxiety or depressed moods. It will help the reiki master concentrate where the energy they’re emitting should go within your body. Some people report feeling warming or cooling sensations, tingling, zaps, or feelings of relaxation and calm.
